Helicopters load supplies aboard USS Essex while enroute to
GULF OF THAILAND (May 9, 2008) SH-60 Seahawk helicopters assigned to the Island Knights of Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron (HSC) 25 deliver pallets of food, water and emergency supplies to the forward-deployed amphibious assault ship USS Essex (LHD 2) during a vertical replenishment. Essex is the lead ship of the only forward-deployed U.S. expeditionary strike group and was participating in Cobra Gold 2008, a military exercise centered around a humanitarian assistance mission. The amphibious assault ship with USS Juneau (LPD 10), USS Harpers Ferry (LPD 49) and USS Mustin (DDG 89) are moving to the Andaman Sea off the coast of Burma for potential humanitarian assistance operations in the wake of cyclone Nargis.
