The boxes at your grocery store that fruit comes in are usually pretty sturdy. I've used them before.

There are lots of places to look for boxes. I would suggest talking to local merchants.

You can always stop in your local liquor store! They always have a TON of boxes!

Also fast food places like McD's put a lot of boxes out. You just need to ask and they will probably let you take them. Another place that sells them are UPS Stores.

Self Storage locations usually advertise that they sell moving boxes and supplies, so do many of the U-Haul rental locations.

U-haul sells boxes but you can go to a grocery store at night when they are stocking the shelves and they’ll give you as many boxes as you want. The paper towels and toilet paper come in large boxes. Also get some banana boxes from the produce dept. These are very sturdy and can be used to pack your dishes and glasses.
