More Tips for Packing Your Moving Boxes Efficiently (Part 2)

In our first article, we covered three essential ideas for keeping your moving box and moving supply costs to a minimum.  This is achieved in large part by packing your items in an efficient manner.  We’ll now take a look at three more ideas to increase the efficiency for this key step of moving your home.

First, you want to avoid damaging your items during the move.  One of the best ways to save money when moving is to avoid damaging your items during transit by making sure you package all of your valuable items correctly for your move.  With this in mind, use generous amounts of packing paper or bubble wrap when wrapping fragile items.  For the most part, try to wrap each item individually.  This will go a long way toward ensuring the items don’t break by impacting each other during transit.

Be careful not to over pack the moving box.  If packed too tightly, the outer items will receive additional pressure during the move which can result in unwanted damage.  And for those boxes containing fragile or heavy items, make sure to label the box accordingly.

Second, find creative ways to use up all the allotted packing space you have to work with.  For example, clothes and linens can be placed in empty drawers for efficient space utilization.  You can even place small items that have been individually wrapped inside pots, pans, and bowls.  Get creative and generate your own space saving techniques based on the items you have to work with.

Third, consider your appliances beforehand.  Plan on cleaning them thoroughly before you begin the packing process.   It’s best if you can let them dry overnight.  Also, make sure to put an opened box of baking soda inside each appliance to keep them smelling fresh, and if possible, leave the doors of the appliances slightly open.

By following these simple steps along with the ideas outlined in the first article “Tips for Packing Your Moving Boxes Efficiently”, you’ll be on your way to an efficient move without overspending on your moving supplies.  And if you’re interested in our reviews of the top sites that sell moving supplies, check out our resource page for where to buy moving boxes.
