Where do I get moving boxes?
Sounds like a dumb question but where do i get boxes for free? Moving is already really expensive so I’m trying to save my money. I know I can check grocery stores and stuff but they always say they don’t have any. bull… so any advice would be great and it’s a simple 10 points!
The best boxes for moving are liquor boxes. They are made for holding breakable glass. They even come with the cardboard dividers that can be helpful for some of your fragile items. Call and find out when the delivery truck comes.
Banana boxes from the grocery store are also good for larger items. They have an opening at the top which you can cover with a piece of cardboard if you need to.
Good luck!
Check the dumpsters behind stores. Sometimes, stores will save them for you instead of breaking them down.

If you go to a store (not sure where you live but I think you will get the idea) such as Home Depot, Target, which sell electroincs, kithcen, etc…..stuff…they usually have heaps of boxes for shifting….all for…..FREE!!!! Just chat them up and I am sure they will oblige.

Go to stores like Sam’s Club and there will be displays where boxes will be available for free. These bulk item places always have boxes available for guests.

you can buy boxes from stores like home depot or lowes for really cheap. Otherwise, ask your local grocery store. They should have some that you can get for free.

For heavy things like books, go ask your local Starbucks stores when they get their coffee in. The boxes are strong and the perfect size to not be too heavy or awkward. And they have handles in the sides!
If you talk to them in advance, they’ll save them for you. Be sure to call first thing in the morning so they don’t forget, though. Starbucks is very into re-using and recycling. They’ll save their coffee grounds for you to use as garden compost, too!
The key thing is asking in person. If you ask the grocery store produce manager when they get the apples in and ask them nicely to save the boxes, they will.
But, you still have to call first thing in the morning that day and remind them.
Also, you can go to Craigslist.com and check the "Free" section. I’ve seen free moving boxes there almost every time I’ve looked.
You can run a free ad there for "Wanted-Free moving boxes", too.
Post a sign (sort of like a yard sale sign) at the intersections near your house with arrows pointing toward your house and asking people to drop off moving boxes.
Go to a u-haul and ask if you can post a sign asking customers to call you to pick up their boxes when they’re done with them. (If the manager isn’t a turd, they’ll let you put a sign somewhere, even if it has to be outside the gate.)
That’s all I can think of right now, but you should have more boxes than you can use if you do all of these things.
Have a great move. I hope you love your new place!

Have you tried liquor stores? They have a lot of boxes.
Or you could try food distributors. They are not an official shop but you can go in and buy something. They just ship food products from over the world and distribute it to all the shops. My dad works there and everyday they empty around 50~75 boxes.
Maybe if you can’t find one, you could go into a big mart e.g. Target and ask nicely if you could have some unused boxes for free. All they are going to do is recycle them, so what harm could a person in need of them be?
Some dumpsters have them, I heard. I don’t even go near a wheelie bin EVER in my life but it could be of use. If you are in New Zealand, go to Trents. They have a gazillion boxes all waiting to be thrown out and they don’t mind if people come and collect them. Actually, they have a whole area full of them and people come and go and carry them away, but the shop people never even notice them.
You could also go into stores that sell kitchen things e.g. fridge, oven. They have H-U-G-E boxes and I’m sure they would let you if you ask, there’s no need or reason for them to turn you down. Or you could go into to furniture stores because they have plenty of boxes. Surely they wouldn’t mind, they’re just BOXES after all, what cost could they be?
You could try out grocery stores, ask for some boxes. They bring in fruit all the time in boxes so they should have some.
Go into coffee shops! They have coffee beans coming in big boxes, so hopefully they’ll have some for you.
Good luck! Hope this helps you a bit, if not more.
