How much should it approximately cost to move across town?
I have a twin-sized mattress, a light drawer, a table, and three "garbage-bags" of stuff that I need to move across town. This totals up to approximately 800lb.
Approximately how much should it cost me to move this amount of stuff across town for a distance of approximately 2mi? I’m thinking about using a full-service moving company.
I thought about doing it myself or with a friend, but I figured that I’d probably have to take a day off work, risk getting injured with heavy items, etc. — to such an extent that it might even make more since to give away almost everything via "take it yourself and it’s free."
What should it cost? Is my guess $200-ish reasonable?
Hold a garage sale and sell the stuff. Move and buy new stuff. Another option is to look in the local classified adds. there are usually people who move stuff. What you are describing can be loaded into a pickup truck in less than 30 minutes unless it is a big table. Then it might require two trips. It can be done after work or in a couple of hours on the weekend if you do not work 7 days a week. Do you know anyone with a pickup truck. Buy a case of beer and tell a few of your friends that if they help you move, you’ll buy the beer. You can even throw in a bar-b-que at the new location when the move is finished. It will still cost you under 100 bucks. Another option is to offer them the table or the drawer if they’ll help you move. Then replace that item when you get to the new location.
