Any ideas on where I can find good & sturdy boxes for moving for FREE?

So many retailers won’t let you have them as they recylcle them for money. I the thought of paying Uhaul for boxes. At around 5 bucks a piece, that would double our moving expenses.

U-Haul now offers a drop location in all company stores where customers can drop-off their reusable moving boxes for other customers to take and use. This is a way for customers to assist one another while promoting reuse of the product, which is always preferable to recycling. With every reuse of a box, a new one is prevented from entering the cycle.

Another website is freecycle.org. You sign up for free, and runs ads for example, wanted: moving boxes, or you give away things you no longer need, but someone else can use.. It’s basically an online newspaper, but everything is free and you pick any neighborhood you want to join, so everything is local.

I’ve been going to the produce department of my grocery store and asking them for the apple and citrus boxes. They usually don’t toss these out because there’s always people looking for them. If they have crushed them for that day, just ask them to save them for you for a couple of days. 99% of the time they will do it.
Don’t even try to use the banana boxes-the big openings on the top and bottom aren’t good for packing.

We use a lot of boxes from the local liquor store. They are smaller but easier to carry. Good luck.

On recycling day, drive around, and look for boxes particularly around stores, not all stores sell the boxes, they have to put them with the recycling like everyone else
